I love Joan Crawford, pretty much everything she touched was golden, some say she was campy but that's one of the things I love about her acting and her movies, besides campiness (in a good way mind you) she also made masterpieces (according to me they are anyway). These are my
Top 5 favorites of the
40's, the awesome Ms. Crawford at her best (not in any particular order, yet again):
1.
A Woman's Face (
1941)
 |
| Joan with the yummy Conrad Veidt, one of her best performances. |
2.
Mildred Pierce (
1945)
 |
| Her iconic performance, as well as that of her bratty, ungrateful daughter Veda. |
3.
Possessed (
1947)
 |
| Possessed by Van Heflin, loved by Raymond Massey, wow! |
4.
When Ladies Meet (
1941)
 |
| Here w/Greer Garson who plays Herbert Marshall's wife with whom Joan is in love with, all the while Robert Taylor is in love with Joan. Less appreciated than her other films of this decade, her and Robert have such perfect chemistry. |
5.
Humoresque (
1946)

| Joan is a troubled woman in a loveless marriage who finally falls in love with violinist John Garfield. The quintessential campy Crawford. |

Thanks for the tip on A Woman's Face, which I hate to admit I've never seen. If it's half as good as the others, which are personal favorites, it'll be a real find.
I, too have never seen "A Woman's Face." I think TCM aired it not too long ago, and I thought about recording it...but by the time I got around to setting the DVR, I was a day late.
All the other films are fantastic. It would be hard to choose which one I like best, but I'm leaning to "Humoresque."
Love, love, love her in Mildred Pierce.
Thanks for the comments!
A WOMAN'S FACE is essential Joan. =)
